This is not a gym. That’s the point.

Most people who decide to get serious about strength after 40 are not looking for a gym. They are looking for someone who will show them how to lift correctly, watch their form, and adjust the plan when a knee or a shoulder has an opinion.

That is what a coached class inside a physical therapy clinic gives you.

A capped class size. A coach on the floor the entire time. A program written in advance that builds from week to week.

No mirrors, no crowd, no guessing what to do next.

Built for people who want to build and keep muscle

If any of these sound like you, you are in the right place.

What’s your why?

Why strength training matters after 40

Reset Physical Therapy and Performance

Adults begin losing muscle mass gradually in their 30s, and without regular resistance training the pace picks up after 50.

Hormonal changes in midlife, including menopause, can speed up the loss of both muscle and bone. The result shows up as stairs that feel steeper, jars that will not open, and a slower recovery from ordinary days.

Resistance training is the most reliable way to slow that down and, in many cases, reverse it. It is consistently linked to stronger bones, better balance, a healthier metabolism, and the ability to stay independent for longer.

The U.S. Physical Activity Guidelines recommend muscle-strengthening activity at least two days a week for every adult.

The catch is that it has to be done with enough load to matter and with form good enough to keep you healthy.

That combination is hard to get from a video or a large class. It is exactly what a coached class is for.

What We Develop

What a class looks like

Every class is developed with the members in mind.  Small classes mean exercises are planned specifically with you in mind.

02

Strength

Age-appropriate strength built on clean movement patterns. Squat, hinge, push, pull, carry.

The patterns behind getting off the floor, lifting a suitcase, and carrying groceries in one trip.

04
Agility

Change of direction, deceleration and reactive footwork.

Targeted work for the muscles that get neglected: glutes, upper back, core, and the small stabilizers that protect your joints.

05
Mobility
Change of direction, deceleration and reactive footwork.
06
Body Control
Core stability, coordination and single-leg control.
07
Durability
Addressing asymmetries and deficits linked to injury risk.
08
Confidence
Athletes who trust their bodies compete differently.

Questions People Ask

Answers to your questions

No. Adding noticeable muscle size takes years of very deliberate training and eating, and it does not happen by accident in a two or three day a week class. What most people notice first is that they feel firmer, stand taller, and can carry, climb, and lift with less effort.

Yes. Beginners are the norm, not the exception. Your coach teaches every movement before you load it, starts you with your own body weight or light loads, and adds weight only when your form is ready. Nobody is left to figure it out on their own.

It means training the movement patterns you use every day: squatting, hinging at the hips, pushing, pulling, and carrying. Getting up off the floor, lifting a suitcase into an overhead bin, and carrying groceries in one trip are all functional strength. The class trains those patterns with progressively heavier loads so they get easier in real life.

This is the reason to train inside a physical therapy clinic. Your coach can modify any movement for a joint that needs it, and if something needs a closer look, a Doctor of Physical Therapy is on site. Under Alabama law you can be evaluated and treated by a physical therapist without a referral for up to 30 days or 11 visits.

Three ways. Class size is capped so the coach sees every rep. The program is planned in advance and progresses over weeks rather than being a random workout each day. And the coaching is backed by a physical therapy team, so form and joint health come before intensity.

The U.S. Physical Activity Guidelines recommend muscle-strengthening activity at least two days a week. Two to three classes a week is the sweet spot for building strength while giving your body time to recover.

No. The classes are open to the public. Many members have never been a patient at RESET. Others join after finishing physical therapy so they can keep the strength they rebuilt.

Classes are for adults of any age. The program is built so that someone in their 30s and someone in their 60s can train in the same class at loads that are right for each of them.

Comfortable athletic clothes, flat supportive shoes, and a water bottle. All equipment is provided.

Yes, and many members do. Pilates builds core control and mobility, strength classes build load capacity, and the two complement each other well. If you are currently in physical therapy, your therapist and coach can coordinate so the class supports your plan.
